Fully Hybrid

A hybrid solar system is grid-tied with battery storage. They come with a special 'smart' inverter that can transmit direct current (DC) power to and from your batteries, and channel alternating current (AC) power between the grid and your home when necessary. In the context of residential solar+storage systems, a hybrid inverter (sometimes referred to as a multi-mode inverter) is an inverter that can simultaneously manage inputs from both solar panels and a battery bank, charging batteries with either solar panels or the electricity grid (depending on which is more economical or preferred). Their capabilities may go beyond this, however – some devices also handle inputs from wind turbines, generators, and other power sources.

People say all the time that they want to get off the grid. Beyond just meaning getting away from it all for a while, getting off the grid has a specific technical meaning with regards to your relationship to your utility and how you get your power. So, what exactly does it mean to go off the grid?

The term “off the grid” refers to living autonomously without reliance on a utility for power. Off-grid living is often ideal for rural locations where there is a lack of reliable grid access. Off-grid homes will require alternative power options like solar energy.

No Batteries

One of the questions we get a lot is, well, where do the batteries go? In a modern system, most of the time there aren’t any. The way that it works: you’ve got your sun, you’ve got your house, and you’ve got your solar. Couple of pieces of equipment that make this whole thing work: you’ve got an inverter, you’ve got your meter, and you have the electrical grid. So the suns going to hit the panels and create direct current electricity. That direct current is going to run to an inverter. The inverter switches it from DC to AC (alternating current) which is what we use in our house.

When you’re producing more power than you’re able to use, that excess is going to get flushed out through the grid and it’s going to be stored there as a form of kilowatt hour bank, an electricity savings account if you will.

When you’re not producing as much as you’re using, during the night or in the middle of winter, you’re going to pull from the grid again. Our goal is to get you to a point where the energy that’s going out equals the cost of the energy that’s coming in, and thus, zeros out your energy bill.

Geyser Conversion

Solar Water Heater

Conventional Solar Geyser

Solar water geysers rely on warm water rising, better known as convection. This is how water circulates through the panels. Convection happens when the water stored in the panels heats up and rises into the water tank above, or in the ceiling – depending on where you decide to install it. The hot water in the tank then moves into the cylinder, usually located inside the house.

Meanwhile, the cooler water in the tanks flows downwards into the absorber (collector). These actions create circulation.

If the solar geyser is in the ceiling and at a lower level than the panels outside on the roof, then convection will not take place and a circulating pump is required to circulate the water between the tank and panels.

Flat Plate Conversion

The flat-plate solar water heater is also available as either a direct or indirect solar geyser. In a direct system, water is circulated to the collector and heated directly. In an indirect system, a glycol mixture is heated and that heat is then transferred to the water in the geyser. Direct solar systems are more efficient, but indirect systems are useful in frost-prone areas.

Flat-plate solar geysers use proven technology and tend to be more affordable than evacuated tube solar geysers.

Circulation is controlled by an advanced solar differential controller, which also manages a backup element in case of power cuts and various safety features.

Solar Cap Collector

Solarcap is an efficient solar water heating system that is not just more durable than currently available versions, but also aesthetically pleasing as it totally eliminates the need for unsightly large panels and geyser on your roof. Solarcap works by adding to or replacing portions of your roof's ridge cap with the Solarcap solar tanks. We are able to adjust the color of the tank to better match your roof color.

Geyser Worx Conversion

GeyserWorx® is a Patented (No. 2013/06616) microprocessor-based product that utilizes solar energy during the day to heat household or commercial water. This is done using PV (photovoltaic) panels reducing the electrical running costs of your geyser system.

Geyserworx was established in South Africa in 2013 by Systems Automation & Management Pty Ltd (SAM), which has been in business for 30 years with experience in automation and control systems. SAM is an ISO 9001 2008 approved company with proven capabilities and experience within the Automation & control industry. SAM has a highly qualified team to develop products and partnerships and provide services to meet our clients’ needs.

SAM‘s design team offers a highly sophisticated design capability.  We utilize Computer-Aided Design (CAD) facilities and manufacture our end products in conjunction with our network of partners, who in turn utilize Computer-Aided Manufacturing equipment.

SAM offers a skilled and experienced team of Software, Hardware, Electronic, Electrical, Mechanical, and Process Control Engineers to provide a comprehensive service based on our experiences gained from our vast client base. We offer a quick response service where quality is uncompromised while meeting the client’s stringent deadline requirements.

Electrical Division

In electricity generation, a generator is a device that converts motive power into electrical power for use in an external circuit. Sources of mechanical energy include steam turbines, gas turbines, water turbines, internal combustion engines, wind turbines, and even hand cranks.

The power factor correction is a technique of increasing the power factor of a power supply. Switching power supplies without power factor correction draws current in short, high-magnitude pulses. These pulses can be smoothed out by using active or passive techniques. This reduces the input RMS current and apparent input power, thereby increasing the power factor.

Hanging Lamp

LED is highly energy efficient – Less heat, more light, lower cost. Use less electricity for the same light output - 85% less electricity when compared to conventional lighting and around 18% less electricity compared to CFL. Worldwide, around 20% of electricity is consumed in lighting.

Energy Audits

An energy audit is an assessment of your home that takes a look at current energy consumption and then identifies energy efficiency measures that you can conduct to make your home more efficient.
